In 2012 I was asked by the publishing house Giochix to design the look and graphics for CO2, a boardgame by renowned game designer Vital Lacerda.
The game subject (global pollution) was pretty dramatic and complicated and allowed little room for a figurative approach, so I went in a stylized, almost abstract, direction. Apart from the gaming board there were tons of cards and tokens to be designed. The game was going to be distributed worldwide so its components could not bear any written text (to avoid the translation part) and all the game instructions had to be conveyed through infographics.
The game won severeal accolades and by reading comments on specialized forums I was happy to find out that the visual part played its role.
The game cover art, which served as inspiration for me for the heavy use of textures and silhouettes, was made by Paula Simonetti.
(I never played the game btw, but it made me aware of carbon credits and how crooked the industralized world is...)
